Globalization

"Globalization can ... be defined as the intensification of worldwide social relations which link distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away and vice versa.'  (Anthony Giddens, former director of London School of Economics)."Globalization is almost synonymous with communication & technology - communicating through technology is a great tool to pull the people far away from us closer to us really fast. But keep in mind that in other contexts it makes the people close to us feel more distant even faster (ie. texting on your phone on a date).

With that in mind, it is easy to see how important a role globalization play in the lives of people today. And especially young people, whose minds are being formed by their surroundings.
Teachers therefore have an obligation to guide their pupils in how to benefit from the globalization, including the many sources of information that easily can be accessed through the internet. But globalization doesn't only generate nice opportunities, it also produces a lot of challenges that has to be dealt with.

One could argue that the cultural encounters in recent history have lead us into wars in the Balkans, Middle East and a number of other places, which is true. Being in an economic and cultural globalization era, we need not to focus on the negatives and extremists communities, but rather teach students how concepts as ‘Human Rights’ and ‘Tolerance’ can really help us benefit and acknowledge cultural encounters in the society

Some concepts in Globalization:

International Communication - Internet, Social Media, Music Television, Friends

Language - Lingua Franca
